Welcome to my home - Hull the city of culture 2017

Just a pre warning but this post will not be a normal beauty or fashion post and if you are not from England you probably will not understand. Also this post you would not probably expect from a normal 16 year old girl like myself . However it is on a topic that my family and myself have discussed many a time. I live in the North of England extremely close to a city called Kingston upon Hull, close enough to tell people that, that is where I live.

* This is Hulls City of culture bid video which was successful*

This year we won the City of culture 2017 which will hopefully be a huge boast to our economy and raise our status as a historic town rich in culture. My grandma is a very proud person along with my dad. Therefore I grew up with stories of Hulls fisher men and stories of the bombings on Hull during WW2 making it the third most bombed city after London with People killed 1,200, 3,000 people injured  and 152,000 people being made homeless, this sadly being forgotten by many others. This also means every summer my mum would pack me and my brother up and send us to my grandmas to be taken round all 7 free museums, including the William Wilberforce museum dedicated to the man from Hull who helped abolish slavery.

The pictures at the beginning of this post were all taken by myself at last years 'freedom festival' which takes place every year. Also shown in the video, its a time were the whole city comes together to celebrate our diversity and embrace it. The pictures also show Hull fair which people come from miles around to enjoy one of the biggest fairs in Europe.

The following views are not just my own but I share with the rest of my family as its always seems to be  my Dads favourite topic to talk about. Hull has gained a lot of bad press in the past and still does now, just in 2003 we was the 'proud' winners of crap towns. An award given to us by people who probably haven't even visited Hull and if so had only seen the parts that needed some attention. But it is extremely easy to look at a certain part of a city and think all of it is 'crap'. Yes we have some council estates but who is to say the people who live on them are not amazing hard working people. Also doesnt Leeds, Bristol and London all have estates to? Every city has its problems so why only focus on ours when Hull is full of History, culture, shops and entertainment from the deep, hull truck/ new theatre and many festivals? It is also extremely easy to type in Hull into Google and be meet by multiple websites saying all the worst possible things about my home. For example the Urban dictionary definition of Hull is :

sh*thole...a very cold grubby city that despite seeing roadseepers everywhere... never seems to look any cleaner, full of insolent pricks who can not seem to grasp the idea of people being different. see also hell-hole'

After our 2003 'win' of crap towns, less then 10 years later we are not even in the top 50 as well as becoming the 7th top happiest city to live. With East London the most unhappiest, East central London 4th to bottom, north London 7th to bottom and West London taking the 10th bottom position. Therefore I find it hard to understand how many people still have a hatred towards hull stating we are all 'chavs' with 'nothing in-between our ears' as I can assure you now, we are not.  Also I realise im trying to prove my point by making other cities look as bad as they way they talk about Hull making me look like a hypocrite but im simply going off statistics not just personal views.

Growing up I loved Hull, but over all I think my main message from this post is you have to be proud of where you come from. If you are interested in coming to see the greatest we have to offer in 2017 when we are the official city of culture please visit the hull city of culture website. It would be much appreciated.

Benefit - Rockateur blush review

Being on a student budget I often read about a million and one reviews before I buy a high end product. The benefit Rockateur blush being one that I did my research on. Therefore I was extremely happy to receive it as a part of the beauty swap at the Lincoln blog meetup ( blog post and vlog here). After a couple of weeks trying it out I am loving it!!

The blush itself is a beautiful rose gold which also highlights very subtly. Originally it had a top layer of shimmer however after a few application I found it was just the right about  to give you  a healthy looking luminous glow. The product applies well being very lightweight and quite sheer. However is very buildable if wanted. The packaging im not as sure about. I do love boxed blushes ect however the chains and lace do make it look a little cheaper. However apart from that it is a lovely product to use daily. I never really use brushes that come with products even if it does seem like a decent brush, which this one does. Instead I normally use the real techniques blush brush to apply.

I know this wasn't really a full review but I haven't had that long to really get to know the product.

Soap and Glory - Kick ass concealer, smoulder Kohl and super-cat eye-liner

Whilst in boots the other day at the Lincoln blog meet, I picked up 3 soap and glory products as it was 3 for 2. I picked up the Kick ass concealer, smoulder Kohl and super-cat eye-liner, The concealer was a recommended buy  from Charley who was at the meet up. I haven't had time to really get to know the products yet however this is my initial thoughts after a few goes with the products.

Kick ass conclear
Firstly this product is a great for price being £10 for a great high coverage conclear. You get two different colours in the product as well as a powder. I found that you can either mix the two together to  get right shade or use one for blemishes and one for under eye depending on your skin colour. I found that great it has great staying power compared to other drugstore concealer and has a very creamy texture. I have and had suffered from horrible skin problems since I could remember but this product really does cover everything.
I also love all soap and glory packaging but the product is the  perfect size. However looking at the whole collection, there is  not much colour range to chose from.

Supercat eyeliner
First of all the pen is really easy to use as it's just like a felt tip which makes it great for everyone to us, especially beginners or people who just cant do liquid eye-liner. The pen means that it glides on easily and it stays on most for most of the day.

smoulder kohl soap and glory
I love this for creating a very intense look as the application of the eye-liner is smooth and creamy and so brilliant for lining your water line.I find it lasts for most of the day however it does smudge a little under the eyes. Amazingly its only £5 however although it's a very  soft pencil, the pencil doesn't run down too quickly therefore its definitely worth it.

Scarlett fashion - Paisie Ocean Blue Necklace *

In my lovely goody bag from the Lincoln blogger meet, I received this down right gorgeous necklace from Scarlett fashion! Now I will say now that I will never say that I love anything given to me by PR or through blog meets ect just because it was free. However this necklace is literally my new baby! It is such my style and I have already picked out outfits that I want to wear it with. So I would like to say thank you for the donation by Scarlett fashion, I LOVE IT! I also wore it in my vlog of the meet so have a look at that (here)

They are an online fashion retailer and I've been having a good look through there website since the meet. I think I meant have to put in an order for the  Missco Girl Oversize bag as It looks beautiful.

The Lincoln blogger meetup

The other day I was extremely excited to attend the Lincoln blogger meet organised beautifully Bel (http://www.journeysaremydiary.com/) and Amy (http://www.cocktailsinteacups.com/). I think the video will get across how great the day was rather then me rambling on and on.

However I will say  this day was amazing. I got to meet lots of amazing bloggers and many of them in my area which is great. The beauty swap and raffle was a great idea by Bell and Amy as it gave us all the opportunity to create more content reviewing loads of new products without really spending a penny. Which I love as on a student budget its sometimes a bit of a squeeze.

Id also obviously like to thank all the brands that very kindly donated to the AMAZING goody bags we received. I'm thinking of doing  haul if anyone is interested in having a good rummage round.

So please check out any of the bloggers that also attended!

Fathers day out and OOTD

I could probably do a full A level essay on how much I appreciate and love my father on this fathers day however it could get very soppy and im pretty sure no one will want to read that as you have your own mothers and fathers to appreciate. But I will simply say that even though he can be very embarrassing at times like most dads, I am definitely a daddy's girl. To me my dad is an inspiration, coming from a rough school in a not practically nice area, yet certainly made his way in the world.

This fathers day we went to the Yorkshire sculpture park for a good long walk like old times ( my parents love 3 things in life camping, English heritage and stately homes which made for a very outdoors childhood). Even though my dad does not want to be on the internet I though it would show some of the other pictures from today as well as an OOTD.

OOTD
Blazer -  miss Selfridge
lace top -  primark
scarf - from a vintage market
high waisted grey leggings -  M&S ( yes M&S, I love their thick leggings for winter or on colder summer days in England)
boots - Topshop

Today has been such a nice day that really brought my brother and myself back to our childhoods which consisted of long walks, muddy paths and endless hours looking in art gallery's ( my dad is also a big art fan a long with my brother)

How did you spend your fathers day?
